Open all winter, ten minutes from Tromsø and out of the city light
The practical base for northern lights, and one of the few Norwegian sites that stays open through the dark months. It sits by the Tromsdalen river a short drive from the Arctic Cathedral, with heated service buildings, a large communal kitchen and cabins that make a February trip survivable. Winter pitches have proper power for motorhome heating. Aurora tours pick up from the site, and on a clear night you can often see the display from the riverbank without leaving. Summer is a different holiday altogether — midnight sun, hiking on Tromsdalstinden and bright fjord days.
Value check: Prices sit mid-range year-round, which is good value in February and unremarkable in July.
